Slug hunting!

Do you know which creature has a mantle, one powerful foot, thousands of teeth, has two sets of tentacles, is both a boy and a girl, creates mucus just by absorbing moisture from its surroundings, and a pneumostome (opening into its one lung?)  Rereroa does! It's the mighty slug...

We know so much about their lifecycle, their amazing features, and why they are so slimy.  Please ask us about slugs!

We had a slug in class today and did some observations and named it.  We were quite taken aback by its speed, and how much it moves its optical tentacles around.

(Those black stalks are its optical tentacles):

We decided to go on a slug hunt, as we know that a slug's habitat is damp, dark, and preferably near food.  Our kura garden was the perfect place to find slugs, but we were unlucky in our hunt this time.

Then we let our slug out to create a mucus trail.  We measured the time and distance travelled, and discovered our slug can travel a pretty impressive 0.1km/h.  We also worked out our speeds too, and most of travel at about 2.9km/h to 3.9km/h.  We are much quicker than a slug, but we do have two feet!
